Ice Cream Social Fundraiser to benefit the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial at J Pepper Inn in Kknife River, MN August 17, 1 - 4 pm

Knife River, MN August, 2003 -- Sunday August 17th 1:00 to 4:00 PM an Ice Cream Social will be held at j pepper inn art gallery / b&b in Knife River. Cost is $10.00 per individual, and $20.00 per family. All proceeds will benefit the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial. This is also the last day of the exhibit of artist Carla Stetson now showing at j pepper inn. Visitors of the Ice Cream Social will have an opportunity to meet the artist. The exhibit includes a model of the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial as well as mixed media collage paintings.

About the Memorial
The Clayton Jackson McGhie memorial honors the lives of three young, innocent African American men lynched in 1920 in Duluth. The design for the Memorial stimulates reflection and discussion. The writings and visual language link to produce a powerful message of equality and understanding. By creating a prominent public artwork, we will build a bridge between communities and offer a long-standing symbol of reconciliation.

The monument will forever serve as a reminder that something good and beautiful can come from a tragedy such as this if we stand together and proclaim the truth. As of August 1, 2003 $166,629 has been raised for the memorial on First Street and Second Avenue East. $100,502 is still needed for completion of the monument.
